Florence lies on both banks of the Arno River in central Italy, at the foot of the Apennines mountain range. The old bridges span the Arno River where shops line both sides and is a historic landmark. During the Renaissance, from 1300 to 1600, some of the greatest painters, sculptures, and writers in history lived and worked here. Florence is the capital of both province of Florence and the region of Tuscany. The Arno River rises in the Etruscan section of the Apennine Mountains in northwestern Italy. The fertile Arno valley has vineyards and olive groves, and is noted for its scenic beauty as you can see here in this painting.
